AAH seeks nominations for the 2014 REF Assessment
The AAH is one of many nominating bodies for the 2014 REF panel Art and Design: History, Practice and Theory.
But in the past we have been able to make sensible and effective representations that have been well received by Hefce.
We are now asked to do two things: to endorse candidates who are applying to act as Chair of the panel and to nominate potential panel members. Given the amount of work that the overall panel will have to undertake we will aim to ensure that any Chair who is nominated is willing to allow History of Art, Architecture and Design to act as a sub-panel and that it should have a good range of expertise and approaches to the discipline.
We are asking members who want the Association's endorsement as chair of the Panel to submit their letter of application to admin@aah.ac.uk by 1 September 2010. The AAH can endorse more than one candidate and we will reply by 10 September in order to meet the Hefce deadline of 18 September 2010.
Given that we are unlikely to be able to have more than about 6-10 panel members, we are asking Heads of History of Art departments, schools or units to nominate no more than 2 art historians (one of whom should be from outside your department, school or unit) to the AAH using the Hefce form which can be downloaded from here (doc). The deadline for this nomination is Monday 20 September which will allow us to meet the Hefce deadline of 8 October 2010. More details about the current process can be found at https://www.hefce.ac.uk/research/ref/pubs/2010/01_10/01_10.pdf (PDF)
The AAH is proposing to hold a meeting to discuss the REF, the new rules for impact and the ways in which we will work with other disciplines on the panel. This will be held at the University of Birmingham in in mid-November; details will be circulated in due course.
