The art history of the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance has generally been written as a story of elite patronage. This conference, however, seeks to challenge this historiography by looking at images, decorated objects and buildings that were made for people who were economically less privileged.

Call for papers - Printing Colour 1700–1830: Discoveries, Rediscoveries and Innovations in the Long Eighteenth Century

Conference: 10–11 April 2018 (Senate House, London). Object Sessions: 12 April 2018 (London collections).

Eighteenth-century discoveries in archives, libraries and museums are revealing that bright inks were not extraordinary in 1700–1830. Innovations added commercial value and didactic meaning to advertising, books, brocade paper, decorative art, fashion, fine art, illustrations, medicine, scientific imagery, texts, textiles and wallpaper. A new, interdisciplinary approach is now required.

Travel Grants - CAA-Getty International Program

The CAA-Getty International Program, generously supported by the Getty Foundation, provides funding to between fifteen and twenty art historians, museum curators, and artists who teach art history to attend CAA’s Annual Conferences. The goal of the project is to increase international participation in CAA, to diversify the association’s membership, and to foster collaborations between North American art historians, artists, and curators and their international colleagues.

Call for papers - II CCC – Conference on the Convent of Christ. MONASTIC EQUIPMENT AND SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

The International Conference Monastic Equipment and Spiritual Practice, aims to bring together the researchers interested in (re)thinking the space once inhabited by monastic communities, as well as the tools and strategies that shaped monasteries as a whole. The proposals are welcome to approach specifically but not exclusively the case of the Convent of Christ and the military orders.

Save the date - Conference hosted by the German Lost Art Foundation on the subject of art theft in France

This interdisciplinary conference discusses the cultural role of fans in art, fashion, and material culture in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Taking the visual and material diversity of fans as a point of departure, it aims at gaining new insights into the various interrelations between fans, paintings, and printed artworks.
