Conference - Korean Contemporary Art International Conference: Between Tradition, Modernity and Globalisation

Posted on Thursday, 7th June 2012

Korean contemporary art has gained a strong presence on the contemporary art scene, with a new generation of artists making names globally. At the same time, Korea maintains a strong domestic contemporary art scene, quite distinct from the transnational circulation of Korean art. However, the literature on Korean contemporary art in English is dispersed and dominated by monographic studies. This major international conference, to be held at The Courtauld Institute of Art in partnership with another major London venue, will offer a new opportunity to reinterpret modern and contemporary Korean art. Leading scholars, artists and curators will discuss Korean art in the context of its history, politics and place in the contemporary art world.

Developed by The Courtauld Institute of Art and SUUM Academy & Project with the support of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, this major conference will be a networking platform for UK and international audiences with an interest in Korean contemporary art in the global context.

Further information and programme available here: http://www.courtauld.ac.uk/researchforum/events/2012/summer/jun29_KoreanArtConf.shtml
