Terra Foundation Fellowships and Academic Opportunities in American Art

Postdoctoral teaching fellowship at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London [2011–2013]

This two-year postdoctoral fellowship in American art is integrated with the postdoctoral fellowship program of the Courtauld Institute of Art Research Forum, which supports advanced inquiry in the history of art, conservation, and museum studies. The fellow will teach three historical American art courses, participate in scholarly activities organized by the Courtauld Institute of Art, and organize an international scholarly event. The stipend for the two-year fellowship is $121,550, including health benefits, travel, research, and lodging.

Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship at The Institut National D'histoire De L'art, Paris [2011–2013]

This two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art focused on the history of American art and transatlantic exchange is shared between the departments of art history and American Studies at the École Normale Supérieure, the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, and the Université de Tours. The fellow will teach undergraduate and master’s-level students, participate in local seminars, and organize academic programs on related research topics. The stipend for the two-year fellowship is $102,000, including health benefits, travel, research, and lodging.

Visiting Professorships at The Courtauld Institute Of Art, London [2011–2012 and 2012–2013]

Two short-term visiting professorships are part of a program designed to expose students to the best of recent scholarship on historical American art. A twelve-week professorship is available for 2011–2012: the professor will give one full-term course that is integrated with the Courtauld Institute of Art curriculum and will participate in other scholarly activities. A one-week intensive professorship is available for 2012–2013. Stipends will be determined by the seniority of the scholars.

Visiting Professorships at The Institut National D'histoire De L'art, Paris [2011–2012 and 2012–2013]

These eight-week visiting professorships at the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art focused on the history of American art and transatlantic exchange are shared between the departments of art history and American Studies at the École Normale Supérieure, the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, and the Université de Tours. Visiting professors will give lectures and seminars that build on existing curricula and will participate in workshops, conferences, and other scholarly gatherings organized by the host universities. One visiting professorship is available for each academic year: 2011–2012 and 2012–2013. The stipend for an eight-week professorship is $30,000, including travel.

Visiting Professorships at The John F. Kennedy Institute, Freie Universität Berlin [2011–2012 and 2012–2013]

These three-month visiting professorships are focused on the history of American art and visual culture. Visiting professors will offer specialized courses, seminars, and lectures to students and participate in the larger academic community throughout their stay. Two professorships are available for each academic year: 2011–2012 and 2012–2013. The stipend for a three-month professorship is $36,000, including travel and lodging.
