Post: Curator, Art and Mental Health exhibition
The University of Nottingham Medical School (Division of Psychiatry) is launching its first medical humanities module: ‘The Arts in Psychiatry’ in September 2008. In collaboration with the Institute of Mental Health, a novel partnership between the University of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, and the University’s Djanogly Art Gallery at Lakeside Arts Centre, we plan to host a complimentary exhibition on the topic of art and mental health.
We seek a curator to research and assist with the planning of the exhibition to be shown at the Djanogly Art Gallery in 2010 or 2011. The individual will have research experience in visual culture and/or art history with a special interest in issues related to mental health. We are interested in receiving proposals from within a broad spectrum of research interests both historical and contemporary or a combination of both. Works in a variety of media will be considered for exhibition. It is anticipated that a comprehensive programme of related educational events both academic and broader in appeal will be planned alongside the exhibition.
Interested persons should submit a proposal of no more than one thousand words outlining their conceptual and theoretical ideas for the exhibition including details of suitable artists or works to be included and giving some indication of what stage of development their research has reached to date. The proposal (accompanied by a short CV) should be submitted to neil.walker@nottingham.ac.uk and victoria.tischler@nottingham.ac.uk
Application Deadline: 31 October 2008
