Conference Registration

Student Helpers will be at Oxford Road train station and Piccadilly station between 10am and 4pm on Thursday 2 April to give directions to MMU.

All delegates must go to the Registration desk upon arrival to pick up a conference pack, programme and delegate pass. Registration will take place in the Geoffrey Manton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) during the following times:

Thursday 2 April, 12.00 - 17.00
Friday 3 April, 09.00 - 17.00
Saturday 4 April, 09.00 - 13.00


Academic Sessions
Academic Sessions will take place in the Geoffrey Manton Building between  09.30 - 17.10 on Friday 3 April and between 09.30 - 15.20 on Saturday 4 April. A full session timetable will be available in the conference programme (obtained upon registration) and is online at http://aah.org.uk/2009/academic-sessions-2009.

 Exhibition Opening and Private View
Thursday 2 April, 14.30 - 16.30, State Legacy, Holden Gallery and Cornerhouse (Curatorial introduction by Prof. John Hyatt, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Huang Zhuan, Director of OCAT, Shenzhen)

Plenary Lectures
Thursday 2 April, 17.00 – 18.30, Manchester Town Hall
Keynote Speaker: Prof. Marsha Meskimmon (Loughborough University)

Saturday 4 April, 15.50 - 16.50, Manchester Metropolitan University
Keynote Speaker: Prof. Ernst van Alphen, Leiden University.


Receptions and Events
Thursday 2 April, 18.30 - 20.30: Opening Reception and exhibition viewing,  Manchester Art Gallery.

Friday 3 April, :  18:00 - 21:00 Reception and exhibition viewing Subversive Spaces,  Whitworth Art Gallery.  Three of the curators of the exhibition, Dr. David Lomas, Dr Anna Dezeuze and Dr. Sam Lackey, will present a paper on the underlying themes of the exhibition, its development and realisation from 18.00 - 19.00. This will be followed by a response from Prof. Mignon Nixon (Courtauld Institute).

Conference Bookfair
Thursday 2, Friday 3 and Saturday 4 April 2009
12.00 - 17.00 & 09.00 - 17.00, Geoffrey Manton Building, MMU
Take time to see what some of the leading academic and arts publishers have recently brought out and talk at first hand to publishers about book proposals and future programmes.

Bookfair will run concurrently to the conference and will be open 12.00 -17.00 on Thursday 2 April and 9.00 -17.00 on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 April. 

Bookfair Booking Deadline for Publishers has passed.


Careers Fair
Thursday 2 April, 12.00 - 14.00, Righton Building, MMU

MIRIAD, together with MMU’s Careers Service, have organised an informal Careers Fair for the AAH09. This will allow students an opportunity to chat to and meet representatives from leading local, arts-related institutions and organisations.

Environmentally Conscious Conference
Efforts are being made to 'green-up' the 2009 AAH Conference. The event is being organised in consultation with two other charities: Action for Sustainable Living (AFSL) and Fareshare. AFSL are advising on environmentally conscious options for producing the conference programme, packs and publicity. Fareshare is an organisation that redistributes food that has not been used during an event. The Conference Organisation Team would like to encourage all delegates to consider the following:
